54A George St, Redfern NSW 2016, Australia
The building was constructed as the Star Hotel in 1882, with a second incarnation as Star House from 1959, when it became offices. The project converts the existing state significant heritage listed building into residential units, with a home office that reintroduces an active use to the street frontage.
The principal building is retained, and its existing fabric retained, maintained and restored. The internal rooms have been generally used in original configurations, or returned to original configurations. All external openings are retained and restored, and the pavement-spanning front verandah reinstated.
The construction of a new two-storey addition to the rear; and the insertion of contemporary services bring this building up to today's standards.
